The Death of Mobile Signature?

with 3 comments

This is one of the painful posts I have had to write in my life, but it is a post that must be written.

n49165180804_1463158_6901.jpgIn 2004, I started utilising the services of the company to host some of my clients websites. The service was ok. Then it started degrading. As a believer in giving people opportunities, I persisted. After all, this was a young man trying to make a living in this difficult country.

But, it seems Mobile Signature could not manage its success. They expanded. Moved to bigger offices. Employed more personnel. But their service did not improve. Support calls not being answered. Services paid for not activated. Customer care officers just being rude.

Now all contact numbers are switched off. Emails delivered, not replied. Now, am on a man hunt for members of staff of Mobile Signature Ltd. Not to cause them harm, but to find a way of retrieving my domains which are locked in with them. I have lost a number of customers because of their poor lack of service.

Update: removed the name of one of the founding members of the company because he requested I remove it.

A Pathetic attempt @ Blog Monetization

with 3 comments

I use Google Alerts a lot. It helps me keep track of certain items. For example, I use it to keep track new releases of wordpress themes and plugins. (Also, since I am addicted to email, its ensures I receive tons of emails everyday)

My alert feed for today on “wordpress plugin” included the following:

I decided to follow the link titled “New theme with a weird name”. The article referenced the release of the Cushy theme by WooThemes, which I had got information about instantly on Twitter anyway from Adii and Wootheme.

I understand that the owner of the site is desperate to make money online from his blog, but this is overkill. It is difficult to get any reading done without a clicksor advert popping up in your face.

I even tried dropping a comment, unfortunately, Clicksor just wouldnt allow me. Am not surprised he only has 2 subscribers. Seriously, is he even making money at all?

Entitlement: The Silent Killer

with one comment

WASHINGTON - NOVEMBER 10: U.S. President Geo...

Image by Getty Images via Daylife

Earlier this week, a friend e-mailed me an audio clip of a voice mail left at a bank in Lubbock, Texas, by a woman who had been notified her car was about to be repossessed. The woman, as you would imagine, was agitated. She angrily reprimanded the bank for not understanding she wasn’t rich. That is — she wasn’t rich yet. She ended the voice mail by proclaiming this year she WOULD be rich because Barack Obama was now president.

Putting aside the sad fact that it would appear a segment of society presumably voted for Obama under the belief he was going to give them the keys to Fort Knox, this woman is a prime example of the entitlement issues plaguing the world today. This is the year she finally gets to be rich.

I first became aware of this wave of entitlement when I became a teacher a few years ago. Students who did not pay attention in class, misbehaved and didn’t study felt they deserved passing grades. Their parents felt they deserved passing grades, too. More than one parent-teacher meeting was spent discussing what the teacher was going to do to help little Johnny pass instead of what Johnny needed to do. I refused to play this entitlement game, stated so, and soon retired from teaching.

These days it’s impossible to throw a rock out a window and not hit an individual who believes he’s entitled to anything and everything (including everything you own since you just “assaulted” him with a rock). A finance article, of all things, expressed my thoughts perfectly:

(The) relationship between optimism and hard work has been lost in some quarters, thanks in part to the self-esteem movement, which gave everyone a trophy regardless of his or her effort.

The recent season premiere of ‘American Idol’ provided an example. One of the men who auditioned, Randy Madden, dresses like Axl Rose but works as a salesman in a cubicle (calling himself “a rocker in a box”). When he met the judges, he admitted to having no musical training and never playing in a band, and then proceeded to butcher my favorite Guitar Hero song, Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer”. He teared up for the camera, proclaiming, “I just want someone to tell me I’m great.”

Here was a man utterly unprepared to get the thing he wanted — so he simply decided he was entitled to it, demanded it, and set himself up for a rather spectacular fall. He is not unlike those who took out mortgages they couldn’t afford, cashed out and squandered their equity, piled on credit card debt and home equity loans, then teared up, proclaiming, “I just want someone to tell me I’m rich.”

None of us are entitled to anything unless it’s specifically stated in the Bible or U.S. Constitution. And neither the Bible nor Constitution state we are entitled to be rich. Neither states we deserve a trophy just for playing the game. You want to be rich? Work for it. You want a trophy? Practice, get better and earn a trophy.

You want your car not to be repossessed by the bank? Get off your butt and stop expecting riches to fall from the sky and into your lap.

Of course, if Obama really does end up handing these people buckets of cash, boy is my face going to be red.

25 Billion Naira

without comments

I was wondering, if I won the ellusive lottery and was given a cheque of 25 Billion Naira, what would I do with it? Still wondering? I would start my own bank ofcourse.

Street Bank – banking with an attitude.

Why that slogan/motto or whatever it is called? Simple, our operating processes…..

Our Rules.

If you are a poor man, dont come near our bank, else you will be attended to by the security man. Do you think we would waste the time of our customer services officer on you? Did I mention that the Security Officer will query you outside. Dont want you staining our clean office. Read the rest of this entry »

Nigerian Banks, Nigerian ID Card

with one comment

Sometime ago, I was given a cheque to cash from Wema Bank Maryland. I woke up in the morning, feeling good that I am going to have some cash to spend for the weekend, and arrived @ the bank with 1000 kobo. Waited in line like a dutiful citizen of our great nation and was politely attended to by the “clerk”.

Guess the good news, I could only withdraw if I had a Driver’s License or International Passport. Ouch! I dont have any of those, what about my National ID Card. Sorry, I was politely told that it was “irrelevant” here and as such…..

I don’t have a car, I don’t know how to drive, therefore I dont have a driver’s license.
I have never left my country, I don’t have an International Passport. Are you saying “i cant receive money without those 2″

I had the matter resolved after walking to Anthony to and fro and getting the name of a contact man in the bank.

Oh, i have spent all the money.
