How reliable are Nigerian Websites…

I took a stroll to my recharge card vendor to purchase a Multilinks 500 card to load on my phone so that I can connect to the Internet. At the spot, a discussion started about the acquisition of Multilinks by Telkom Ltd, I said that Telkom acquired 51% of Multilinks. I suspected I was wrong, but since I seemed like the most educated on the issue, they let it go.

I rushed home, recharged my account and went to Multilinks site to confirm my opinion. I got this

How come a lot of Nigerian websites don’t get updated? Its a shame on the companies and we webmasters. We need to take a stand of “showcase” these outdated sites.

  1. Its very hard for some companies to update their websites. This is due to the fact that some of them don’t know the implication or don’t want to pay for the services. As a webmaster, when approaching them, they will tell you alot story when you offer to manager their sites.

  2. At this age and stage, we really should not be making excuses for Nigerian companies. After all, a lot of their operations are copied from foreign companies, why cant they copy the culture of updating their contents.

If you look at the Multilinks page, the content is dynamic, it is not just updated

  3. There are no excuses on this issue of updating websites, especially those that offers services that needs new information.

  4. [...] when I thought it could not get worse, I “re-”came across Wema Bank’s website. I was having a discussion with a friend [...]

  5. i’m of the opinion that most nigerian companies lack maintainance culture, that’s why they feel that updating of their websites is of less importance.Updating of information on their site is very important and ought to be the first on their priority list but unfortunately, they take it lightly.there is no excuse whatsoever for them not to update their websites at least once a month so they should try and cultivate the habit.
secondly, most companies don’t want to spend especially on updating their sites which they termed as ‘frivolities’because i believe they don’t know the power of websites and its benefits to their organizations.if companies begin to appreciate the internet, then there will be a change in their attitude towards updating their sites.
